Jake Gyllenhaal was pre-destined to be in the entertainment industry. After all, his father is the famous director Stephen Gyllenhaal and his mother screenwriter Naomi Foner. Jake started acting as a child when he appeared on City Slickers. He then appeared in movies directed by his father like Homegrown and A Dangerous Woman. The actor’s breakthrough role, however, was as Homer Hickam in the 1999 October Sky.

Also born into the Gyllenhaal family is Maggie, Jake’s older sister. Like her brother, she is also an actress and then a producer. Maggie made several commercially successful movies in 2006, including World Trade Center. She then received critical acclaim for playing Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight two years after. Her investment money grew along with her fame, as expected. It is interesting to note that both Jake and Maggie had dark-themed movies as their breakout films.
